YOU WORK WHERE?!"

"YOU WORK WHERE?!"

Nat's POV I glanced at Clint. It had been an hour since Peter—or, well, *the kid*—had texted back. Felt like a lifetime.

Clint was keeping his distance after I tackled him earlier, but I could see he was worried. He’s got that “trying not to laugh” look about him.

"You guys are acting weird. Anything up?" Tony asked, slumping into a chair with… honestly, I’ve lost track of how many coffees he’s had today. Bruce would know. Probably keeping a running tally.

Neither of us answered. Our phones buzzed simultaneously.

***

Peter (Group Chat) Hey guys! Sorry for the delay.

Merida What were you doing?

Kim Possibly Yeah. An hour is a long time to ghost us.

Peter Homework.

Kim Possibly Cinnamon roll, if you wanted to lie you shouldn’t have put a question mark after that.

Peter Cinnamon roll???

Merida Bwahahahahaha

Nat's gone soft.

Kim Possibly Say that to my face, bird brain.

Merida KID HELP

I DID IT

Peter Bad choice, my dude.

Kim Possibly I didn’t kill him, kid. For your sake.

Peter

Thank you!

UwU

So where is he?

Merida I’m currently hiding in a closet.

***

Peter’s POV I couldn’t help but laugh at Merida’s response. Relief washed over me that they’d dropped the subject of my little white lie.

*They couldn’t know what I was really doing anyway.* I thought, pocketing my phone.

Adding pockets to my Spider-suit was the best thing I’ve ever done. Seriously. Best modification ever.

Laughter drifted up from the streets below. Heat flared in my cheeks.

Did I actually *say* that out loud?

Oops.

I hoped no one had recorded it. If Flash heard Spider-Man say that, he’d probably take up sewing. He'd probably try to knit a Spider-suit. The thought alone was enough to make me chuckle.

Anyway, the reason for the delay was a thug trying to steal a limited edition Star Wars toy from a kid. Wrong move, buddy. He was thankfully in police custody now. I’d safely returned the kid to his parents.

I checked the group chat again as I sat down on the top of the Brooklyn Bridge.

Kim Possibly Good. Stay there.

Merida Yes, m’lady.

Peter

Lol.

You two are dorks.

Merida Kid, no matter what she tells you, she rocks the emo girl look.

Peter Really?!

Merida Yep. Black rimmed glasses without the lenses—because she doesn’t need them—and everything.

Kim Possibly Kid, are you sure you don’t want me to kill him? You can find other friends.

Peter Murder is never the answer.

Merida Right! Murder is the question!

Kim Possibly

And the answer is yes.

Right, kid?

Peter Nat, NO!

Kim Possibly Nat, YES!

Merida Nat! Please no!

Kim Possibly Then run.

***

Nat’s POV I glared at Clint, who was staring at me. He glanced down at his phone, then back up at me again. That was a look I recognized.

"Nat, you have to admit it. You do not look that intimidating with those glasses." He said with a smirk.

I rolled my eyes, grabbing my phone back out of my hoodie pocket. He’s just trying to get a rise out of me.

Peter’s POV I rushed past people, trying to get home on time. I almost missed it, but I made it to the apartment to find no one home.

I set the grocery bag down in the kitchen and started to clean up.

May was going to be so surprised.

I smiled to myself. Dinner was almost done. With the house cleaned, she could relax for the rest of the day.

If you’re wondering why I’m preparing a surprise, she’s been working double time lately. And I had news.

“Peter! I’m home! I got you something.” May called out, struggling to unlock the door.

I made a mental note to fix that lock.

“Hey May! I—I got something for you too!” I blurted out, scrambling to put the food on the plates.

“Could you help me with this door?” She asked, jiggling the doorknob.

“One second, May!” I yelled, rushing to the door.

I quickly opened it and took her bags.

“Thank you.” She said, looking tired but excited.

I rushed into the kitchen, setting the bags down. I pulled her chair out for her and she sat down. I quickly did the same. I leaned towards her.

“May, I have some news!” I whispered. She’d been encouraging me to follow through with it ever since school started in September. It was October now.

“Good news, I hope. Or is that why you cleaned the house?” She asked playfully.

I pulled her chair closer.

“I’m signing up for the internship!”

Her eyes widened, and her smile grew.

“Of course it’ll still have to be looked over and stuff, and at least a thousand people try out for that internship, so I might not get it…” I added, before she hugged me.

“I know you’ll get it, Pete. Uncle Ben would be so proud.” She whispered in my ear. I hugged her back, awkwardly, because of the table between us, but I loved it.

We ate and chatted about school, and I told her how Ned and MJ were doing.

~This is your friendly neighborhood time skip ;)~

After supper, I went to my room to finish my homework. Then, I collapsed on my bed. My face hurt from grinning so much.

Time to text the group chat!
