The rising sun cast a rosy hue across the morning sky. Golden fingers of sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating the room. The dawn chorus of birdsong drifted in, a gentle awakening. The rays warmed Jungkook’s eyelids, coaxing him awake. He blinked, adjusting to the light, and reached for his phone on the nightstand. 7:30 AM. Time to start the day.
Jungkook stretched, yawning. He swung his legs over the side of the bed and headed for the bathroom, brushing his teeth with practiced ease. Afterward, he headed downstairs, hoping for coffee.
He found his father already at the dining table, engrossed in the newspaper with a cup of coffee. “Morning,” Jungkook greeted, smiling. His mother would be in the kitchen, he guessed. He headed that way, pouring himself a cup of coffee, then found her humming softly as she prepared breakfast. He greeted her with a kiss on the cheek. “Good morning, Mom.”
Returning to the dining table, he sat across from his father. His father lowered the newspaper and smiled. “Good morning, kiddo.”
“Why are you grinning like that?” Jungkook asked, curious.
His father chuckled, reaching for a brown envelope. “I have something for you.”
Jungkook stood, eagerly taking the envelope. He tore it open, and his eyes widened as he read the letter inside. A shout escaped his lips. “I got accepted!”
“What’s going on?” His mother asked, appearing from the kitchen, concern etched on her face.
“I got accepted into Big Hit University!” Jungkook exclaimed, bouncing in his seat.
“Oh my goodness! Really?” His mother replied, embracing him tightly. “That’s amazing, son!”
“I’m so happy,” Jungkook said, hugging her back, a tear threatening to escape.
“Okay, okay, we’ll celebrate later. Have your breakfast first,” his mother said, gently disentangling herself.
After breakfast, Jungkook returned to his room, buzzing with excitement. Big Hit University. His dream. He wanted to pursue music, to become an idol. It felt surreal.
“Annyeong!” he murmured to himself, a grin splitting his face. “Jeon Jungkook imnida. I’m from Busan, twenty years old, living with my parents. I graduated recently. I love singing and dancing, sometimes I even write lyrics. I applied to Big Hit University to chase my love for music. And now… I’m in.”
Just as he was rereading the acceptance letter, a knock echoed on the door. “Come in!” he called, and his mother stepped inside.
“Hey, sweetie. We’re having guests for dinner tonight, and we can celebrate the good news then,” she said, smiling warmly.
“Okay, Mom. Who’s coming?” Jungkook asked, curiosity piqued.
“Oh, it’s your father’s friend, Mr. Kim, and his family. So dress nicely. Dinner will be at 6:30,” she answered.
“Okay, Mom. I’ll be ready,” Jungkook promised.
He glanced at the clock. 2:00 PM. Time for a nap.
He woke up to the alarm, 5:30 PM. Time to shower and get ready. Half an hour later, he stood before his closet, debating his outfit. He settled on a white T-shirt, a baby pink sweater, and white jeans. He styled his hair, applied a touch of lip balm, and checked his reflection. Satisfied, he headed downstairs.
He was settling onto the sofa to watch Netflix when the doorbell rang. He switched off the TV and went to answer the door, joining his parents in greeting their guests. He saw a couple, likely Mr. and Mrs. Kim.
“Let’s go inside,” his mother said politely.
“Sure,” Mr. Kim replied.
They entered the living room. Jungkook bowed to the couple. “Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Kim. I am Jungkook.”
“Aww, honey, he’s so cute!” Mrs. Kim said, pinching his cheek. Jungkook blushed slightly.
“Where is your son, Jeongyu?” his father asked.
“He’ll be here in a bit,” Mr. Kim answered as the doorbell rang again.
Jungkook opened the door to reveal a handsome young man, slightly older than himself. He found himself staring, tracing the lines of his face.
“Oh!” Jungkook breathed, his heart skipping a beat.
His mother stepped beside him. “Oh! You must be Taehyung, come inside, son.”
“Taehyung,” Jungkook murmured, returning the smile. He stepped aside, ushering the young man in.
“Annyeong! Mr. and Mrs. Jeon, I am Taehyung,” the handsome stranger replied.
“Kookie, introduce yourself,” his mother nudged.
“Hello! I am Jungkook,” he said, smiling.
A blush crept onto his cheeks as Taehyung’s boxy smile lit up his face. He found himself captivated by the mole on his nose, mesmerized by its charm.
They sat facing each other. Jungkook’s gaze lingered on Taehyung, and he was lost in thought. Suddenly, his father and Mr. Kim announced they had something important to tell them.
“Son,” Mr. Kim said, his voice serious, “we have decided to arrange a marriage between you and Taehyung.”
Jungkook’s jaw dropped. “What? Dad, why?”
“It’s for your own good, Kookie. Please understand,” his mother said, kneeling before him, cupping his cheeks.
“Okay, Mom,” Jungkook whispered, feeling overwhelmed.
He looked at Taehyung, who was already meeting his gaze, offering a reassuring smile. His heart fluttered, and a wave of heat flushed his cheeks. He quickly averted his eyes.
“So the wedding will take place this Sunday,” Mrs. Kim explained. “After the wedding, Jungkook and Taehyung will move to Seoul, since Taehyung lives there.”
“Okay,” Jungkook managed to say.
They all had dinner, occasionally exchanging glances with Taehyung.
After dinner, the Kims bid their goodbyes. Jungkook went to his room, taking a cold shower to calm his racing thoughts. He changed into comfortable clothes and lay down, letting the weight of the evening wash over him. He thought about the marriage and Taehyung, slowly drifting into a deep slumber.
The acceptance letter seemed a distant memory.
