DEJA BRIDGE

Walking to the store with Kamren, I saw these dudes yelling at us.

“Yooo, mama, come here!” some guy yelled from a distance.

We walked into the store, ignoring them. I grabbed an Arizona iced tea and a bag of caramel M&M’s. Kamren picked up yogurt and popcorn.

“Put it back,” I said, glancing at her. “What you talking ‘bout?” She gave me a dumb look.

“The yogurt.”

“Why can’t I get none? I want some. The doctor…” she started.

“No. Just no.”

She walked away, grabbing something else.

I paid and headed back outside. Those same dudes were still there.

I shook my head, avoiding eye contact, and headed toward the park.

“Yooo, lil’ mama, I see you. It’s whatever with yo’ fine ass.”

I kept walking, head down.

“I see my bitch getting the niggas,” Kamren hyped me up.

“Girl, if that’s what you call niggas, I’m gonna be single for life.” I shrugged.

“What took ya so long?” Rubi said, blowing smoke rings from her hookah.

“Kam wasn’t listening.”

“Don’t blame this on me.” Kamren rolled her eyes.

“It was that crackhead nigga talking to you,” she said, looking at me sideways.

I laughed. “Niggas are trash, but it ain’t her fault my bitch is thick.” Rubi slapped my ass.

Rubi’s my best friend, been my bitch since we were little. For real.

“Well, bitch, we going to this birthday party tomorrow. It’s gonna be lit.”

“Who’s going, and whose party is it?” I asked, furrowing my brows.

“God, what with all the interrogation?” she said.

“It’s Blu’s homeboy’s party. Mad people are gonna be there.”

Blu’s Rubi’s boyfriend.

“Okay, I’m gonna go,” I said, looking at her.

“I don’t care if you were gonna go anyway.”

“Speaking of going out, can I go with Mariah to the movies? We’ll be back before one.” She gave me the praising hands. Rubi rolled her eyes, shaking her head. ????????

“Sure.” I said.

“Here’s sixty. Don’t spend it all at once.” I handed her the money.

She nodded. “I’m out.” I walked down the steps, opening the door. There was Rubi.

“I was just about to honk at ya ass.”

“Always ten steps ahead of you.”

I walked over to the car. We pulled up to this big house with a long-ass line.

“Bitch, the whole party’s gonna be us waiting.” I looked at the line wrapping around the corner.

“Nah, we can skip to the front. Blu already told the guards.” She grabbed my hand and headed toward the front.

We skipped the line. Some girl yelled something.

“That ain’t even fair, letting these dumb bitches in!”

I looked back. “Well, maybe a dumb bitch like you should’ve been here earlier, doing what you was doing.” I laughed.

Rubi pulled my hand, trying to find Blu and his friends. We finally got to them in this big house.

Some fine-ass lightskin with tattoos all over him, some on his face. He looked at me, and then mugged me.

“Hey, baby,” Rubi said, holding Blu’s hand.

“Hey, mama. Wassup, Deja?”

“Hey, bighead.”

“This my bro and the birthday boy, Izzy.” He patted his back.

“Happy birthday,” I said to him.

“Preciate it. Wanna get a drink?” He nodded toward the bar. I followed him.

“You’re quiet. How old are you?” he said.

I grabbed a drink and took a sip. “Nineteen.”

“The big twenty-one,” he said, raising his cup. I laughed.

“You got a nice smile.”

He nodded, taking a sip from his cup.

This dancer popped up. “Hey, Izzy, you wanna dance?”

“Nah. I got a dancer right here.” He looked at me, licking his lips.

Oh.

She walked away. “Call me tonight then.”

“What dancer?”

“You right here.” He came closer, his voice low.

I pushed him back. “What you doing? I don’t even know you.” I walked away from him.

I almost bumped into another dude.

“My bad, shawty.”

“Nah, it wasn’t your fault. I wasn’t paying attention.”

“I’ll let you bump me again.” He said, grabbing his phone. “I’m Tee.”

“Deja.” I handed him my cup.

I walked over to Rubi. “Who was that?” She was drinking and singing along to the song playing.

“It was a little too dark to see him.” Rubi shrugged. “Just some fine ass nigga.”

“It’s mmh, sure it is, babe.”

“I’m gonna go.” Rubi looked at Blu.

“Aii, yo, get home safe and call me.”

“I will, baby.” She gave him a kiss.

“Y’all are ugly.”

I stuck my tongue out. “Bye, Deja.” Blu waved.

“Bye, nigga.” I looked at him. “See, I was trying to be nice, and you mean as shit.” I laughed and walked to the car.

We hopped in, driving home. I looked at my phone on Instagram, looking at my picture from today.
