Just like every other high school.

Just like every other high school.

“You’re weird, I like you.”

CHAPTER 1: Sarah’s POV

The start of junior year. Another year, another cycle of boredom. Just one more year until… well, until everything changes.

I can already feel the confusion radiating from everyone as I say that. Let me introduce myself. I’m Sarah Adams. Still stuck in high school, but already dreaming of college. The idea of a fresh start, a new life, parties, road trips… yeah, that’s what I’m living for.

I realized I’d arrived at school. Pulling into a parking spot, I practically bounced out of my car, eager to see Zackie.

“Hi, Zackie!” I sang, trying to annoy him at 7:30 in the morning. He glanced at my outfit, then at my face, and a familiar grimace spread across his face. Even that was adorable. His name is Zack Pearson.

“Well hello, Sarah, you sound far too chirpy,” he mumbled, looking thoroughly unimpressed.

“Good morning to you too!” I laughed, pushing past his annoyance.

We somehow managed to coordinate outfits – a fitted grey tee for him, dark blue jeans, and me… well, I was going for something similar. His hazel eyes stood out, a calm center in the morning chaos. He looked like a Greek god. Tall, fair, charming, hot, tempting.

Was I drooling over my best friend? Before he could notice, I shifted my gaze, scanning for my other friends.

There they were, my twin girlfriends: Ellie, petite and blonde, and Rose, petite and redhead. They were already huddled by the lockers, rummaging through books and, judging by their faces, already miserable. Looks like PMS was hitting hard.

I skipped through the usual “good mornings” and “hellos,” reaching my friends who immediately smiled when they saw me.

“Heyyy, where’s Kate?” Kate is short for Katelyn. I hugged both of them.

“She’s not in town yet. Her trip runs until today, and she’s flying down tomorrow,” they replied in unison. It's a twin thing.

While they said all of this, I took in their attire. Ellie wore a black skirt and a yellow summer top, and a lot of makeup. Rose styled up in a plain white top with denim shorts. Their petite figures carried it well, I guess.

Small, but attractive enough to catch everyone’s attention. Being less curvy and dressing boldly definitely had its perks.

I saw Zackie heading our way, and instantly smiled. The scent of his cologne wafted over.

“Hey, cupcake. Ssup?” Abbott called out to me, a familiar grin on his face. He did that to annoy me. I could immediately see Zackie give him a hard glare, and Abbott mimicked a surrender. I chuckled at how authoritative Zack’s glare was.

“Just a sign of good friendship, Abbott,” he said, defensively.

“I was absolutely fine until I heard you, oh wait until I need you being an asshole too,” I flicked his forehead, laughing at his dumbfounded expression. The others found the scene amusing, but couldn’t hold back their laughter.

As if on cue, the school bell rang, and we sighed, scattering in every direction. We said goodbye, promising to meet up during break. Zackie nodded and grinned wide.

I had math with Nate, but I didn’t see him. Looking to the side, I realized Abbott was walking with me. Maybe he had a class next to mine? That sounded logical.

“Where’s Nate?” I asked, meeting Abbott’s grin.

“Late as always! See ya, cupcake.”

I chuckled, shaking my head. Nate could never be a normal teenager.

I settled down in my class on the last bench near the window. Perfect. Mathematics was boring as hell, or at least I could zone out more than a girl in love.
