Inside of a room full of floating coffins, our friends Yuu and Pancake are in them. Yuu was currently in a coffin still asleep until noises from outside of it woke him up. Yuu slowly opens his eyes to see what was going on, but when he opens them all he sees is darkness.
Outside of his coffin, a cat-like monster with a blue flame coming out of his ears and tail, was trying to lift open the coffin. "Crap. People are coming. Gotta get a uniform while..." The cat-like monster said, as he tries to open the lift, but to no avail.
No matter how hard he tries, he couldn't lift open the coffin lid. "Grrr!! The lid is too heavy." The monster said, as he rest for a bit. "Time for... my secret move! Guwaahuuh~~~~ There!" The monster said, as he blew fire onto the coffin. "F-fire?!?!" Yuu screamed, when he saw the blue flames.
When the monster blew his fire, he accidentally opens up a coffin lid next to Yuu's, which is where Pancake was. Upon hearing Yuu's screaming, Pancake jolted awake. "Yuu? Yuu!!" Pancake screamed, calling for his friend, worrying what's happening to him.
When Pancake saw that there was fire, he screamed. "Gyaaaa!?!?" Pancake screamed. Suddenly the lid to his coffin blew off as well, he sat up, and started looking around his surroundings before seeing Yuu and the monster there.
"Ok, ok. Gotta get..." The monster said, as he walks over to Yuu's coffin. Upon reaching the coffin, the monster saw that the person inside is awake. "Whaaaaaaa!!!! Why are you up!?" The monster screamed, not knowing why the boy was up.
"Yuu, are you okay? " Pancake asked, as he got to him. Upon seeing Pancake, Yuu screamed. "Who are you?! And how do you know my name?!" Yuu screamed. "It's me, Pancake!" Pancake answered, as he points at himself. "Pancake? Why are you so different?" Yuu asked. "Different?" Pancake questioned.
Pancake was so worried about Yuu, that he didn't pay attention to himself until Yuu pointed it out. Pancake look at himself, and indeed he was different. Pancake is wearing a black robe, with some purple and a bit of gold around it. He saw that he has a human body, his skin tone was olive, his hair was short and it was creamy white. He is 175cm in height, 5cm taller than Yuu. His eyes sky blue, just like it is before when he was an animal. He also have his fennec fox ears and tail.
"You're right! I am different!" Pancake exclaimed, as he checks himself for a bit. "Where are we anyway?" Pancake asked, after he finished checking himself. "We're in a room full of floating coffins!?" Yuu exclaimed, as he finally saw the floating coffins the room him, Pancake and the monster was in.
The monster was in front of them as he watched the interaction, and decided to break it. "You've got a lot of nerve to ignore me when I'm standing in front of you. Your fate was sealed the moment I spotted you." The monster said to Yuu. Pancake spotted the cat-like monster and mistaken him for a raccoon.
"A talking r-raccoon!?" Pancake exclaimed, when he saw the monster. "Just who are you calling a raccoon!!!!" The monster said, in an irritated expression. "I am the Great Grim!" Grim said, as he told him his name. Grim's attention is now on Yuu.
"Well, whatever. Hey, human! Hurry and give me those clothes! Otherwise... I'll roast ya!" Grim threatened. "This is a dream right? It must be a dream." Yuu said to himself. "Dreaming about getting roasted by a raccoon, that's a new one!" Pancake said. "I said I'm not a freakin' raccoon!" Grim yelled.
As Grim was yelling at them, Pancake grabs Yuu's hand. "Come on, let's go!" Pancake said, as he and Yuu runs out of the room.
Pancake and Yuu ran, and they keep running, as they keep finding different areas. First they were outside, but still inside the school. Second was one of the school's classroom. Third was the courtyard with a water well in the middle, and a bench in front of an apple tree. Lastly, they ran into the library which has floating books around, and green lights illuminates the dark library.
"Where the heck are we?" Pancake questioned. "If this is a dream, I wanna wake up." Yuu said. Suddenly blue flames stops them from advancing forward, and the both of them saw Grim. "Did you really think you'd get away from my nose? Dumb human! If you don't wanna get roasted, better hand over—" Grim was interrupted, as a whip hits him, and warps around him.
"Bwah?! Ow! What's with the rope?" Grim questioned, as he was trapped by the whip. Pancake couldn't help but feel bad for Grim, the sound the whip made, makes his fox ears laid back against his head, showing that he was a bit afraid.
Pancake and Yuu saw a person with a top hat, face mask and cloak. "This is no mere rope. It is a lash of love!" The stranger said. Yuu and Pancake sweat drops at the name of the whip. 'Lash of love?' Yuu and Pancake thought.
"Ah, found you two at last. Are you two the new students? You shouldn't do things like that. Leaving the gate on your own! " The stranger said. The stranger than look at Yuu. "Not only that, you have yet to tame your familiar which has broken a number of school rules." The stranger said.
"Let me go! I'm not his freakin' familiar!" Grim said, as he was struggling trying to get out of the whip. "Sure, sure. The rebellious ones always say things like that. Just quiet down for a moment." The stranger said, as he puts something on Grim's mouth, shutting him up.
"My goodness. It's unpredictable for a new student to leave the Gate on their own. And with two at that." The stranger said, as he crossed his arms. "Uuuggh... How impatient can the two of you be?" He said, as his arms are now on his sides. "The entrance ceremony is already well under way. Let's head to the Hall of Mirrors." He said.
"...New students?" Yuu questioned. "...Gate?" Pancake questioned. "It's the room you woke up in with all the doors. All students who wish to attend this academy must pass through one of those doors to arrive here." The stranger answered.
"Normally, students wake up only after the door is opened with a special key, but..." The stranger said. "So those coffins were actually doors." Yuu said. The stranger nodded his head. "They bid farewell to the only world they've ever known and are reborn. Those doors were designed with such sentiments." The stranger said.
"The fire must have blown the lid off." Pancake said, when he remembered how he got out of his coffin. Yuu nodded in agreement. "So in the end, the culprit appeared to be this familiar. If you're going to bring it with you, you have to take responsibility and take care of it." The stranger said to Yuu.
The stranger realized something. "...Oh my! Now isn't the time to be long winded. The entrance ceremony will soon come to a close. Let's get a move on." The stranger said, as he walks pass Yuu and Pancake, as they both started following him.
"Just wait a second, where exactly are we?" Yuu asked. "And who are you?" Pancake questioned. "What's this? Are you two still dazed? It appears the teleportation magic has left you two disoriented..." The stranger said, as he held his chin in thought. "Well, it is fine. It happens often enough. I shall give you two an explanation as we make our way there. For I am gracious." The stranger said.
The three of them exits the library, with Grim being pulled by the stranger, and makes their way to the courtyard. "Ahem." The stranger said, as he begins telling Yuu and Pancake where they are. "This is 'Night Raven College'. Those magicians blessed with a unique aptitude for magic gather from all over the world, here at the most prodigious academy in Twisted Wonderland. And I am the headmaster, appointed to take care of this academy by the broad chairman, Dire Crowley." Crowley said.
"Ma... magician?" Yuu questioned. "Night... Colle...?" Pancake questioned. "Only those magicians deemed worthy by the Dark Mirror can attend this school. Chosen ones use the Gate and are summoned here from around the world." Crowley explained to the both of them.
"An Ebony Carriage carrying a Gate should have gone to meet the two of you as well." Crowley said. Yuu and Pancake remembers seeing a horse with a carriage, outside of their house, before coming here. "I think I remember a horse with a terrifying face..." Yuu said. Pancake nodded in agreement. "It was scary." Pancake said.
"The Ebony Carriage goes to welcome new students chosen by the Dark Mirror. They are special carriages that carry the Doors to the academy. The market decided long ago that carriages are used to welcome people on special days." Crowley said.
"So you're saying that carriage just brought us here on it's own!?" Yuu exclaimed. "Muggmm! Muggghh!!" Grim said, as he was still being dragged.
"Come. Let's go to the entrance ceremony." Crowley said, and brought them towards the entrance ceremony.
