The girl nodded, gently rubbing Nightwing’s head. “Fine, my name is Ivy. I was flying, unknowingly, over Outcast Island. Suddenly I was bombarded with catapults and arrows. Then I was hit in the back by one and fell off Nightwing. I fell onto the hard rocks below, hitting a slab of rock.”

“Then the Outcasts captured me and took me prisoner. They tortured me for days until Nightwing finally broke me out. We came as far as Berk before I fell off, fainting from blood loss and exhaustion. That’s when we landed in the cove, and Nightwing hunted creatures and cooked them for me. Eventually, the prey became scarce in the cove, so she ventured into your village, which I’m sorry for.”

“Well, I’m just glad you’re okay.” I smiled, and she returned it, though tentatively. “My name is Hiccup.”

“If you want, when you get better, my fellow dragon riders and I can escort you back home.”

“No! That… that’s okay. In fact, I was hoping I could stay. If it wouldn’t be too much trouble?” She asked, looking up at me with a hopeful expression.

“Not at all. You can take my bed. But you should rest. I’ll be downstairs if you need anything.”

“Thank you for everything, Hiccup.”

“You’re welcome, Ivy.” She smiled before lying down. “Come on, Bud,” I called to Toothless, and headed downstairs.

????Ivy????

I couldn’t sleep. My body ached, but I didn’t want to rest. I sat up and looked over at Nightwing. As if sensing my gaze, she lifted her head. I smiled, and she purred. “Hey, want to go for a midnight flight?” She jumped to her feet and rushed over to me. I jumped on her back, and we slipped out through Hiccup’s window.

I stood with Stormfly, brushing her spines. Suddenly, I heard a noise. I looked up and saw a Night Fury, smaller than Toothless. “The girl!” I promised myself to keep a close watch on her.

????Ivy????

I woke up to sunlight streaming into my eyes. I covered them and sat up. The ache had left my body, and I smiled. I stood and looked over at Nightwing. “Come on, girl.” She got up and followed me downstairs.

I found Hiccup eating breakfast with his father. Upon seeing me, he got up and smiled. “Morning, Ivy. This is my father and chief, Stoick the Vast.” I smiled. “It’s a pleasure to meet you.” He smiled.

“Welcome to Berk. We hope you enjoy your stay here.”

“I do too, sir.” He nodded before returning to his meal, and I sat down beside Hiccup. He smiled, and we both reached for the bacon at the same time. Our hands touched, and I blushed. I glanced at him, and saw he was blushing too.

“Would you like to come to the training area today?”

“I’d love to.” I smiled, and we finished breakfast before mounting our dragons. He led me to the dragon academy, and we landed. I dismounted, and met the other dragon riders. “Hello, I’m Snotlout,” a strange boy approached me with a creepy smile.

Hiccup pushed him away. “Stay away from her, Snotlout. I’m sorry about him, Ivy. He can be a handful.”

“Um, it’s okay.”

“Hey, Ivy,” Astrid greeted me. “Sleep well?”

“Very well, thanks for asking.” She gave me a look I couldn’t interpret. I shook my head and paid attention to what Hiccup was saying.

* Sun Set *

I was setting up Nightwing’s new saddle. Suddenly, Hiccup called to me. “Yes, Hiccup?”

“I thought I could take you around the island.” He said with a small smile. I returned his smile and nodded. “That would be nice.” Hiccup gestured to Toothless. I smiled and sent Nightwing home before climbing onto Toothless’ back.

“Hang on,” he said before releasing Toothless’ tail, and we launched into the sky. I wrapped my arms around his waist and held on for dear life. When the ride smoothed out, I opened my eyes and gasped. Berk looked beautiful. The sun was just setting, casting the last of its light on the village.

I smiled, and Hiccup looked back at me. “Great, right?”

“It’s… it’s beautiful. Thank you for showing me this, Hiccup. While running from the Outcasts, I didn’t get to appreciate the view.” He smiled before turning back around. I loosened my grip around his waist and rested my cheek against his shoulder. But sadly, it was over far too soon.

I felt Ivy’s grip around my waist loosen, and she rested her head against my shoulder. I smiled, and soon we were landing outside my house where Nightwing was waiting.

She ran up to us, engaging in a playful tussle with Toothless. Ivy and I laughed as we ushered them inside.

I stayed downstairs with my father, discussing training for the day when Astrid stopped by. “Hey, Hiccup, I just came to check on Ivy.”

“That’s kind of you, Astrid. She’s upstairs.” She smiled before heading upstairs.

????Ivy????

I was tidying up Hiccup’s room. I didn’t want to make a mess. It was the least I could do after he shared his home with me. Anyway, I was hanging Nightwing’s saddle up when I accidentally dropped it. I bent to pick it up when a large book caught my eye.

I picked it up and pulled it out. It had a strange dragon symbol on the cover. I opened it and soon realized it was a book of dragons. I grew excited—this was awesome. Suddenly, I flipped to the page about Night Furies.

“Speed: unknown Size: unknown

This ferocious dragon is the offspring of lightning and death itself. Do not engage this dragon. Your only hope is to hide and pray it doesn’t find you. This dragon is stealthy—”

“Deadly, and intelligent.” I gasped and looked behind me to find Astrid glaring down at me. “What do you think you’re doing?!” She grabbed me by the arm and pulled me to my feet, snatching the book of dragons from me.
