Jin It had been a long day. Work had been demanding, three baskets of laundry awaited, and, to top it all off, Yoongi had decided against cooking dinner. Wonderful.
Normally, I’d tease him until he relented, charming him into preparing something. But today, I didn’t want to bother him. He’d had a terrible day himself. Every few weeks, Yoongi’s father visited, requesting money. Yoongi always resisted at first, but his father’s pleas always wore him down. I sometimes felt sympathy for Yoongi, and other times, pure frustration. He knew the money would be spent on alcohol, yet he gave in anyway. He earned it through exhausting part-time jobs.
I decided to lift his spirits with a good dinner. Given his aversion to spice, a restaurant outing seemed best.
“Hey, let’s go out for dinner,” I called from the living room, hoping to reach him through his closed door. The door cracked open, revealing just his head.
“Why? I’m fine with ramen,” he mumbled, lacking any genuine conviction.
“Nope, not happening. I’m thinking lamb. What do you say?”
“Huh…” He hesitated, giving me a flicker of hope that he’d actually consider it.
“Lamb it is. Grab your coat, we leave in five.”
He turned, a gummy smile finally breaking through his usual stoicism.
Yoongi and I have been living together for almost five years. We moved in together sophomore year, and we haven’t had any reason to separate since.
He hates talking, sleeps a lot, cries alone, and never expresses his feelings. I feel like I’m his mother when it comes to taking care of him. I don’t mind.
After an hour of debating restaurants, Yoongi finally conceded to my choice. But, predictably, he insisted on inviting his best friend, Hoseok. I don’t dislike Hoseok, but he’s a mirror image of me. Our energy, our worldview, and even our affection for Yoongi are almost identical. I fear that someday Hoseok will be enough for Yoongi, and I’ll be relegated to the role of a former best friend. I’m terrible at keeping my feelings hidden, and I know I’ll eventually explode with insecurity, making him cringe or cry. I hope for the latter.
Of course, Hoseok couldn’t keep the dinner plan to himself and had to bring Jimin along. Jimin and Hoseok are these two maniacs. They both work at KSJ Entertainment as dancers/occasional choreographers.
Yoongi works at the same company as a part-time assistant to an audio engineer. Jimin got him the job, so I'll be nice to him.
