The stranger in black

The sun had not moved much since i had sent Ithrul out to the morticians parlor and i was getting worried about him. Savian was also worried as she flew around my room and jumping off and on other items in there. Be it a vase holding withering flowers of the ink well on the desk. I had not left my room not wanting to see the corpses of the people i loved. My heart has turned a shade darker since that day. Deep inside i wanted that man to suffer but i also knew what that meant if one of them found out. Once before i had a friend who had made a deal like that. He had his family slain out of pure hatred for them. A demon with dirty brown hair and deep blue eyes ate his soul after the dead had been complete. I hated him for slaying his own family when they had done nothing wrong but it makes me wonder why someone took mine away from me.

I had to force myself out of my room due to the loud growling my stomach had begun to make. Entering the halls i found that the sound of iron had dissipated and vanished completely. It made me wonder if everything i saw was an illusion but the blood stain on the wallpaper told me other wise. I sighed and turned to the closet mother kept full of cleaning supplies and filled up a bucket from the tap. I poured a bit of lemon juice in with the warm water and i felt a tear slip into it. My mother had taught me to clean up like a true maid and i have just begun to gather the supplies.

Carrying the bucket i moved into the other room and the hall. Getting on my knees i began to scrub away the red stains. The smell taking over my sense. Little by little the stains faded away taking the only piece of them away. I should not be getting over sentimental about the blood of a fallen friend but i may have started to go around the bend. The memories of trapped within these walls had begun to mock me as i wiped away everything that kept me sane. Every petal that withered took a smile away with it from the gardener. Every hair ribbon i found laying around took my sister figure away. Every dull knife that hung on the wall took the sweet man away.

I moved to the dining room where the dinner that never was eaten lay cold and dusty. Every glass that shined captured a reflection of the master that owned them. Every tick of the clock on the wall and every chime it sung took the punctuality that i had grown familiar with. The last dinner i threw away that my parents had tried to eat. Their gifts were waiting on the chairs they sat in, haunting me with the sweet words i had chosen for my father.

The gloves that i had gotten my mother laid in a praying position towards the window, the watch held between them. The image burning it's way into my mind forever. As the smell of lemons filled the manor and the only sound that was heard was my heart beating. I moved back upstair to my room and laid on my bed. The afternoon tea would have been made by now but i felt like i needed nothing even when my body cried for it.

But no one even knew about me right? I never thought mother talked about me to her employer then it hit me. I had to write to them but i did not want to send Savian out with Ithrul gone. I did not want to be alone any more than i was already. The smell of the evening came return of Ithrul with a reply from the morticians parlor if they had even replied to my letter. The sun had turned a bright red as my wonder turned to disappointment at the facts that they had not responded and Ithrul was still gone.

I heard a faint caw and i looked at Savian as she rested her head on my hand and i picked her up and stroked her. Calmly humming to her and to myself as the pain only grew thinking that no one would help me and that no one would even come.

"I am frightened Savian, aren't you? I must write to Mama's master and tell them of the news but i don't wish to send you out without Ithrul returned." I looked lovingly down at her. "You must be hungry, i shall give you a treat." I moved to the kitchen holding her while i searched for a bit of bread. Savian had already hopped from my grasp and flew towards the window happily cawing.

I looked over to where she had gone and i held out my hand as i started to the doors. The garden had still the charm i remember but knowing that this won't last long i shook those thoughts away. She had flew off my hand and to a blur in the distance and i smiled as it drew closer. My iIthrul had returned. What was better is that he had a letter in his hand. Savian and him had flew around each other like the happy couple they are and i smiled at the reunion before holding out my amr. The both sat on it and i walked into the house.

I allowed them to hop onto the counter which i never used to let them do before and kissed Ithrul's head. He happily and tiredly cawed at me. I reached over and stroked him before moving to the bread i had found to feed them both, then as they were eating i took the letter from Ithrul and sat at the table in the kitchen Lighting a candle as the sun had set, the only thing that i could hear were my ravens eating. The paper was a tinted grey color and with a black wax seal. A small ribbon was hanging on it.

I broke the seal and unfolded the letter and began to read, trying to hide my emotions waiting for a rejection. But due to my surprise it never came.

"To Miss Ravenfei ,

I was shocked to hear about your family and i was not expecting that to happen but yet no one can predict these things to happen. I know you may think that you are alone that no one but you will mourn but i too have experience with the dead like this. I give you my sympathy while writing this letter to you. I can take as many people as you say have been lost from the hands of that man. But i will accept your offer to help me with this matter, If it will suit you tomorrow would be a great day to meat at my parlor to discuss the matter of your funerals. And there is no need to send out the young raven again though i must say he is a funny boy. I got a good laugh out of him when he had bit a man that bothers me often. I await you tomorrow or not the option is yours to take.

-Undertaker."

I looked over the words over and over again making sure that i absolutely read what they had sent right. And to my joyous  surprise i was right. Sighing in relief that someone would actually help me and even give sympathy was more than anything i could have wanted in these past few days. Though my stomach growled out for food or even tea i ignored the feeling. I was to overcome with happiness, this letter was my ray of sunshine on this fallen night.

I had to write a letter to mothers work before i went to bed tonight and i would send Savian out instead since she knows the way there like Ithrul does but he had done enough for today. I wrote to them about the past few days and the entire thing with mother while leaving out the way she was killed to keep them sane unless this had already been in the paper boys paper. I offered my own service as a replacement after helping the Undertaker with this job if they wanted me too.

Walking to the doors i got another look at the moon lite garden before feeling Savian on my shoulder. I patted her head once before giving her the letter to send to the manor which my mother worked. She flew off into the night and i walked back into the house with a smile. Ithrul had flew to me as i grabbed the candle and walked upstairs where i set him in his cage. I waited for Savian to return which she did after an hour or two of waiting before i put her to bed as well. I rested my head on my pillows and sighed blowing the flame out in the process. I let the wonderful feeling of sleep overcome my sorrow, my pain and my hunger until i would meet the person who would help me.

The bodies had already been sent to the parlor and i hoped that things had been done to at least one of them. I smiled before drifting off into the darkness.

Again as the day before the sun smiled warmly down at me through my window and i arose to change the feed and water in the ravens cage. They both slept peacefully. I moved into the bathroom and i slipped out of the clothes that i wore the day i came home and found them all. I had been in shambles since then but i still had hope. I washed every ounce of blood off me that remained before stepping out feeling refreshed.

As the customs come i had to wear a lot of black when i went out today. A dress that came to my ankles with a grey inlay that was covered in a black fabric. The sleeves reached my elbows and i placed a black flower in my hair, placed my stockings on and my maryjanes as well. There was a parasol that matched i grabbed before leaving my sleeping ravens be.

I walked out the doors and was very surprised to find that the sun had only just begin to rise and I was up way to early for what i usually would have been. I guess it was just the excitement of someone wanting to help me with this. Then my thoughts turned weary because no matter how many times i walked through these woods nothing screams I am an easy target than a girl in mourning. I felt the need to grab a pistol from the manor but if i moved quickly enough i would make London by the fifth chime on the nine o'clock bell.

The path was simple and easy besides a humble tree root that made its way to the path everything was fine but it was eerily quiet. I felt the eyes of many demons coming to rest upon me. One thing that my family could do is that every once in a great while a child is born and able to see both reapers and demons. I had been the last to be born with this gift and i felt that it would die out when i did. I doubt many would want a dowryless girl for a wife and i had nothing left.

I could hear the London bells begin to chime as the houses came into view. I smiled to myself knowing that this was going to be over, even if the empty feeling that rested in my chest never faded. As i stepped onto the streets i was immediately starred at by the passerby's. Of course walking was not the bets thing i could have done but sending out for a carriage would have been more trouble than its worth. I could hear the whispers as they thought they could not be heard by anyone but their own mids and the people they wished to hear. But i heard and ate up every word they said like a drug.

A mixture of such a poor girl and how ridiculous she would dress like that in public for attention. I did not care what so ever, i had my mind made up on what i was doing and hearing their word was not a part of it. The streets seemed busy until i saw a familiar face and they seemed to notice me as well.  The young Earl came over with his butler and there was no young blonde with them today.

"Ah hello again there miss." Ciel said. Sebastian place a hand over his heart and bowed to me. I nodded and gave the earl said nothing. This seemed to be a shock to him because his face that usually held a stoic expression held one of worry. "Is something wrong Miss..." he took this time to think of my name and he never could come up with it. I had never told him, i waved my hand to stop him. I bowed respectfully and deeply and continued on my way.

I could feel their looks of confusion as i passed the streets. I opened my parasol to hide my face and then the call of a young boy came out.

"Here, read here. Murder at the Ravenfei Manor. Master and Mistress dead at supper. Here read here." I looked at the boy as he was dressed in a few rags and hat on an old hat. I pitied him but i felt the tears i thought i would cry no more form. A hand had rested on my shoulder and i turned to find the red eyes i had seen before.

"Miss are you alright, you never gave my master an answer to his question." Sebastian the butler had said. I could not bring myself to talk nor look up at him. After all he was a stranger in black.  I shook off his hand and looked at the shops around until i say one in the distance say Under Taker. I smiled a very small smile to myself before moving away from the demon. Yes i know that Sebastian was a demon, it did not matter my soul was not up for his appetite.

The store seemed a bit darker and darker as i got closer to it. A strange feeling came over me once again and i opened the shop doors to find a dark room. Coffins laid on the ground and a desk sat with a skull jar upon its fine wood. Some coffins had been leaned against the walls and everything else. I saw no one when i walked in and no one now. I looked around the room and studied it until a creak had broke my thought.

A coffin that laid again the wall began to open and fright filled my heart but i showed none as best as i could even manage. A creepy laughter was heard from it.

"Welcome welcome, i have been waiting for you Miss Ravenfei." The voice called. I turned to the direction and i saw a man with long silver hair dressed in a long black robe and top hat come out of the coffin. His nails had been painted black and were longer than they should gave been for a man. A smiled was plastered on his face and i saw the slight trace of a faint scar run up to his eye. His bangs covered his face but the glowing of his eyes showed off more than i needed to know.

"I suppose you are the mortician then sir?" i asked calmly, but still looking at him. He hopped out of the coffin before closing the lid his back towards me. He gave a small chuckle before speaking again.

"You know starring is quite rude." I turned away from him and focus my gaze to a coffin on the ground. It was dark and the inlay was a velvet red like a traditional coffin would have been.

"I know but could not help to do so. I never judge a person on there appearance but your took me by surprise.  I mean no offence on that sir." i said with an honest voice. He gave another chuckle before looking back at me.

"Call me Undertaker deary. Now then have a seat on any coffin you like, i will assure you that no bodies lie in any, well i could be wrong." i gave a shocked face and he laughed. Was this a mortician or a mad man? "Now then shall we discuss the funerals for all five of the people you sent?" he said with a plate of tea in his hand. I nodded and looked down.

"It all happened so quickly it was strange. Now i have no one." i mumbled. I guess he heard this but decided not to say anything though his face did falter.

"well then let us begin." he said.

I never thought she would actually come here to discuss the funeral, but what shocked me even more was her age. She could have been no more than eighteen. She held out strong during the exchange and i stood up and offered her a look in the back for something fitting for her gardener. Most would have let the family of the worker take care of the deceased but not her. When i asked her she only said.

"They were more family than workers. They were the only friends i had." she said. Her voice had a very melodic tone to it and i began to enjoy the sound of her speak fondly of the dead ones she cared about.

Then the door had opened and i watched the young earl come in with his butler, their faces were filled with concern. Of course we were in the back and i only saw them.  I turned to her and said quietly.

"Please remain here i will be just a moment." she nodded and began to look at the coffins in the hall. She seemed lost n the world of the dead. Something would become interesting on this girl. I walked into the room and i got a luagh out of the face.

"The master wonders why you are laughing at this Undertaker." The demon said.

"Well its not ever day the young earl looks so down, what might that be. Don't tell me Miss Lizzie has gone and left you?"

"That is ridiculous! We come here for information on a young girl." the earl said. My ears perked at this. They can't mean the girl here right?

"Well be specific m'lord. There are many young girls here in London." I laughed out. That caused a sound to be heard from the back. The demon and lord looked at me curiously. "Something must have fallen in the back there that is all. Now who is the lovely lady?"

"I don't know her name but she was walking around in mourning clothes, she might be linked to the murder at Ravenfei manor." the earl said. I froze but kept a smile on my face.

"I never knew that the Ravenfei had another girl other than the maid and the mistress. This will be a dilly."i laughed. Just then the demon walked past me to the back and i could not protest nor get there in time. He came out with Miss Ravenfei on his arm. She looked afraid. I calmly walked over and took her off of his amr and set her down on the coffin beside me.

"I have found the girl m'lord." the demon bowed and looked triumphant. The lord smiled calmly and spoke to her. Part of me needed them to leave and another wanted to hear more about her.

"Miss, may i ask you one thing?" The young Lord asked her. She looked up at him her eyes glossy but she nodded. "Who are you?"

Every eye turned to her and she starred at the ground. "The daughter of the late Mr. Ravenfei and Mrs. Ravenfei. My name is _______." She said quickly and quietly. I went over and sat by her and looked up at the lord and demon.

"Miss Ravenfei and i have business to discuss and you bringing up the tragedy she cane home too is not the thing we must discuss. Now please leave, we have work to do." My voice held a cold tone which i never thought it could do but i managed. This was going to be a fun ride.
