Bloody Jerk!

Bloody Jerk!

Shanaya Oberoi

I was just parking my scooty when someone started yelling my name. Annoying. I glanced around and there she was – Myra. She jogged over, all bright eyes and energy.

“I still don’t understand why you ride this little thing all by yourself to the hospital when you have a fleet of cars waiting at the mansion,” she said, rolling her eyes. Seriously?

“Ugh, Myra, not this conversation *again*. I’ve explained it a million times. I don’t want anyone to know I’m Rajveer Oberoi’s daughter.” I said, rolling *my* eyes. She just… didn’t get it.

“I actually enjoy the freedom. I hate having bodyguards lurking around me 24/7.” I made a face, trying to convey the claustrophobia of being watched.

She just laughed. She always laughed.

I headed into the department, joining the usual routine of greeting Dr. Kapoor. We all lined up in front of her office. I’m a second-year postgrad student in Gynecology, with three colleagues. Four of us total.

“Good morning, Dr. Kapoor,” we chorused.

“Good morning,” she replied. “We have three deliveries today. Shanaya, I need you to assist with the cesarean.”

“I’ll start prepping right away,” I said, and she dismissed the others.

“Dr. Vinay Sharma will be performing the surgery. I just want you to coordinate with him.” She dismissed me too.

I was walking towards Dr. Sharma’s office when…bam. I ran straight into something solid. My phone, clutched in my hand, went flying, hitting the floor with a sickening thud.

Wait. A wall?

I rubbed my forehead and looked up. Definitely not a wall.

It was a *man*. A tall one, with hazel eyes that felt like they were judging me. A jawline like a sharpened knife. Broad shoulders. He looked like one of those models who just stepped off a photoshoot. Too perfect.

I blinked, trying to clear the haze. I looked up at him, raising my eyebrows.

He just rolled his eyes. *Seriously?*

“Get aside,” he said, and I stared at him. I folded my arms across my chest. I was a little bit intimidating, right? I had to be. He was…intimidating.

“I think the least you could do is apologize,” I said, keeping my voice level. “You’ve broken my phone. An apology is the least you could offer.” He looked bored, like he’d rather be anywhere else.

He tried to move past me again, and I stood firm. If he hadn’t given me that attitude, maybe I would have let him go. But with that look…no. Not a chance. I wasn't letting him leave without an apology.

“I don’t have time for this,” he said, trying to brush past me. He didn’t realize he was messing with me.

“Shanaya, Dr. Sharma is calling you into his cabin,” one of my batchmates called out. I nodded at him.

“You’re lucky I have to go,” I said to the man, narrowing my eyes. “Otherwise, I’d make you stand here all day.”

He rolled his eyes, and I left, scowling at him.

Rock.

How can someone be that expressionless?

I went to Dr. Sharma’s cabin and knocked.

“Oh, come in, Dr. Shanaya,” he said, looking up.

“Sir, you asked for me?”

“Yeah… he was feeling a bit lonely.” Another faculty member, Dr. Anand Verma, laughed.

Dr. Anand Verma. The most horrible faculty member who has no respect for anyone. He just insults everybody and everybody and nobody questions him because he has authority in the college.

I fought back the urge to snap something nasty back at him. I needed to respect him. So I bit my tongue.

“I’ll arrange for the surgery in ten minutes, Dr. Sharma,” I said, and left, slamming the door behind me.

If they knew I was an Oberoi’s daughter, they’d treat me differently. I wanted to earn my respect. I wanted to be seen for *me*, not because of my family.

I prepared everything for the surgery and went to inform Dr. Kapoor. I knocked on her cabin and she gave permission to enter.

“The preparations for the surgery are done, ma’am. The patient is waiting.”

She just nodded.

“I’ll be there in ten.”

As I turned to leave again, I saw him again. The same man, as expressive as a rock.

He looked at me and rolled his eyes. His face was blank.

“Aarav, what brings you here?” Dr. Kapoor asked him.

Oh. The rock has a name.

Aarav.

Nice name, I guess.

Shaking off my thoughts, I left.

Why am I thinking about him?

I left the surgery room and was heading to lunch, because there were back-to-back surgeries lined up after.

“Shanaya,” someone called me. I turned to see Dr. Verma, the same creepy bastard.

“Yes, sir?”

“The next time you leave the cabin, do not bang the door so loudly.” He gave me a challenging look.

But was I going to take his shit? No, definitely not!

“The next time I’ll try my level best to shut the door as slow as possible if you decide not to pass any nasty comments on me.” I said with a polite smile.

“Have you forgotten your manners?” he asked, gritting his teeth.

“Definitely not, Sir. I won’t bang the door again.” I said with a sarcastic smile and left.

Asshole!

Ugh!

My day is filled with greeting assholes today, I guess!

I was heading towards the canteen and spotted Myra having lunch with Ayaan. I started walking towards them with my sandwich and coffee in hand when someone bumped into my shoulder, sending my coffee flying. It landed all over his shoes.

“What the fuck?” I yelled.

He hadn’t just spilled my coffee!

I looked up to see who was this stupid person when again I met with the same pair of hazel eyes staring at me furiously.

Finally some expression.

“Can’t you watch where you’re going?” he said, raising his brows.

“Excuse me, *you* should do the same while walking. Instead of giving others a piece of mind.” I said furiously.

“Why am I even talking to you?” he muttered and started to leave, and I grabbed his arm.

He looked back at me and then at my hand which is holding his arm.

I quickly took my hand away and said to him “What do you think of yourself? Mr. Almighty. First you break my phone then you spill my coffee and waste it. Instead of apologizing to me you are giving this attitude of yours to me.” I said raising my voice a bit.

By this time everyone seated in the canteen was watching me.

“Do you even know who you’re talking to?” he asked, raising his brows.

“No! And I don’t give a fuck about it.” I said furiously.

Bloody Jerk!

“Shana, calm down. Let’s go.” Myra said quickly pulling me away.

“What? Why should I go? He should apologize to me first.” I said to her.

“Sir, I’m sorry on her behalf. She lives under a rock, it seems, so she didn’t recognize you. But she won’t repeat this.” Myra said to him pleading.

What? Sorry? I live under a rock!

“Myra!” I started, but she interrupted me.

“Shut up and let’s go.” She pulled me towards the table.

I narrowed my eyes at that Rock.

“I’ll see you later!” I yelled at him, and he just went away rolling his eyes.

His eyes are going to roll out of his sockets someday because of all the rolling thing.

Rock!
