Chapter 2: The Breaking Point

Two weeks had passed since Peter arrived, and so far, my dad hadn’t suspected a thing. Peter came into my room every night, ostensibly for movies and cuddles.

It was nearing 10:30 PM, and everyone was supposed to be in their rooms. “Hey, y/n. What movie are we going to watch tonight, love?” Peter asked, stepping into my doorway. He launched himself onto my bed, showering my face and neck with kisses. When Peter was with me, I felt a warmth and safety that settled deep inside.

“How about Pirates of the Caribbean?” I suggested. He simply smiled and nodded. “I’m going to grab some snacks before we start. Want to come?”

“Sure thing.” We left my room together, heading towards the kitchen. I glanced into the pantry. “Hey babe, what do you want to eat?” The next thing I knew, Peter had his arms wrapped around my waist. “I want you,” he murmured, a smirk playing on his lips. I turned around and returned a quick kiss.

“How about Doritos?” Peter asked. I grabbed the last bag of Doritos, and then a voice called out, “That sounds amazing.” It was Steve. “What are you guys up to?”

Peter immediately loosened his grip on me. “I was just… she was… umm,” he stammered, trying to explain. Steve chuckled – a second father to me, and notoriously overprotective.

“Steve, nothing’s happening. Peter and I were just getting snacks,” I said smoothly, accustomed to navigating these situations. Peter, however, was another story. “Then why does Peter look like he’s about to crap his pants?” Steve asked, a smirk playing on his lips. You and him chuckled, but Peter didn’t find it amusing.

“Steve, don’t tell Dad. He’d kill me, then Peter, then me again,” I said, pleading. Steve stood there, considering. “Fine, as long as I get the last Doritos bag.”

I immediately threw the bag at his face. He started to walk away, “Have fun,” he turned back around glaring at Peter, “But not too much fun.” Steve returned to his room. Peter was petrified, frozen in place.

“We need to work on you being calm during these situations,” I said, grabbing snacks while I grabbed drinks and went back to watch the movie. When it was over, Peter went back to his room, hoping to avoid being seen in my bed the next morning.

I woke up to Wanda and Natasha storming into my room. “So you tell Cap and not us?” Wanda demanded. I rubbed my eyes, trying to fully wake up. “What do you mean? Not tell *you* what?”

“About you and Peter,” Natasha said. My eyes widened. “How the hell do you know?” I asked.

“Cap. Apparently he saw you and Peter last night,” Wanda said, and Nat went “oooo”. I got out of my bed and out of my room. I saw Steve in the living room with Thor.

“What is up with deals nowadays? Does that mean nothing to you?” Thor and Steve chuckled about how mad I was. “Technically, you told me not to tell your father. Which was the deal,” says Steve. “You never said anything about the rest of us,” added Thor.

“Isn’t that right, y/n?” Steve looked at me. I didn't know what to say. “But.. I... ugh.”

Peter walked out of his bedroom, rubbing his eyes against the bright lights. “Ah, look it’s the boyfriend,” Thor said. Peter looked up at Thor, his eyes widening. “How do they… I thought we… huh?” Everyone in the room burst into laughter besides me and Peter.

“Why is that hilarious when he does that?” Steve said. This was the first time Steve had outsmarted me. “Does everyone know?” I asked.

“Besides your father, yes,” Steve said. “Good. And we are going to keep it that way.”

Dad walked into the living room. “What’s going on here, a family meeting?” I, ever the sly one, said, “Why would you think that? Can’t people just have a group conversation without it needing any meaning?”

“Oh damn. Roasted the iron,” Steve said, and everyone chuckled. “Uh, yea of course honey,” he said, looking stunned. He walked in to get the coffee FRIDAY prepared and left to work on something. Peter pulled me aside.

“Oh my gosh. What if he finds out? There is more of a possibility now. What happens if he knows? Will I be kicked out? What if I’m out of the Avengers?” Peter rambled, losing his breath.

“Looks like someone is going to be needing mouth to mouth,” Steve joked. I glared at him, and he looked away. I turned back to Peter.

“He won’t find out, I promise. You need to calm down,” I said, while Peter was still panicking. “And if he does, I promise nothing will happen to you.”
