On the other side of this unfolding tragedy, there was Jeon Jungkook, a married man. He was an Alpha, a leader by nature, bound to an equally strong Alpha woman named Jennie. Their son, Samuel, had been Jennie’s choice, a name brimming with hope. The Jeon family had been a vibrant tapestry of life and promise—until an accident shattered it all.
Samuel’s school bus, en route to school, derailed. Panic seized parents as they rushed to Hope Hospital, summoned to a nightmare unfolding in sterile hallways.
Taehyung and her senior colleagues bore the weight of treating Samuel. Though they often dismissed her with disrespect, they knew her surgical skill surpassed their own. When Samuel needed surgery, they knew she was the best option.
Samuel was rushed to the operating theatre, fighting internal bleeding and a catastrophic brain haemorrhage.
While Taehyung and her team battled the internal hemorrhaging, another team fought to stem the bleeding in Samuel’s brain. They were losing ground.
Despite their desperate efforts, Samuel succumbed to the brain hemorrhage. Taehyung felt a cold dread wash over her as she announced the boy's death. She had to deliver the impossible news to his parents.
Taehyung navigated the crowded waiting room, a sea of anxious faces.
“Mr. and Mrs. Jeon, parents of Samuel,” she called out, her voice trembling. Jennie and Jungkook rose instantly, their faces etched with anticipation.
Taehyung led them to a quiet corner, bracing herself for the devastation to come.
“How is my boy?” Jennie asked, her voice barely a whisper.
“We couldn’t save him,” Taehyung said, her voice thick with sorrow. “We controlled the internal bleeding, but the brain hemorrhage was uncontrollable. I’m so deeply sorry for your loss.” Jennie collapsed in a sob, a raw, guttural cry tearing through the silence. Jungkook sat rigid, his face a mask of stunned disbelief.
Taehyung bowed, her apology hollow, then lifted her head. Her eyes met Jungkook’s.
A flicker of crimson ignited in his gaze—a flash of something she couldn’t decipher. Was it pain? Rage? She couldn’t read it, so she ignored it and bowed again before retreating, leaving them to their grief. Jungkook pulled Jennie into a tight embrace, their shared sorrow a visible weight. Around them, other parents watched, offering silent sympathy, and desperately hoping their own children were spared the same fate. Only Samuel had died in the crash, a tragic statistic.

Two months had passed since Samuel’s death, and a chasm had opened between Jennie and Jungkook. Their marriage was fracturing.
They began arriving home late, deliberately avoiding each other. Jungkook, desperate to mend the rift, decided to reach out.
On a Saturday afternoon, they found themselves home together, a silence hanging between them.
Jungkook sat beside Jennie, attempting to offer a comforting embrace. She recoiled, pushing him away. His frustration mounted with each rejection.
“How long will this continue, Jennie?” he asked, his voice laced with desperation.
“What do you mean?” she replied, her tone flat.
“How long will you refuse to let me touch you? How long will you avoid me in every corner of this house?” Jungkook pressed, watching as Jennie feigned ignorance.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Jennie said, her voice cold.
“Are you still blaming me for Samuel’s death?” Jungkook’s voice was laced with defeat. “Because I suggested the school bus was safer than me dropping him off? Samuel wanted to ride with his friends. He wanted that.”
“Look at what it got him,” Jennie screamed, her voice raw with pain. “He’s dead, Jungkook! Our baby is gone because of you. You should have listened to me.”
“Fine,” Jungkook said, his voice flat and devoid of emotion. “Continue to blame me. I’ll take it. But don’t pretend you’re the only one hurting. Just because I don’t cry doesn’t mean my heart doesn’t ache. Do whatever you want.” He turned and walked out, leaving his home—and his marriage—behind.
