Sometimes, even though it’s hard, we must let go.
Jercey’s POV
My body pressed against a man, his hand tracing the curve of my back as if charting a new galaxy. I wasn’t naked, not yet, but he wanted to be. The man in front of me wasn’t a boyfriend, or even a friend, just a stranger. And I wasn’t some willing girl; I was a thief. My lips were locked on his, my back pressed against the brick wall of a restaurant, while he hovered over me.
I felt cheap, but who cared? I was doing this for my friends. My hands, which he believed were roaming his body, were actually emptying his pockets.
Suddenly, a whistle cut through the air. A whistle I knew, a whistle I’d been waiting for.
Breaking the kiss, I shoved him hard enough to stumble. I opened my eyes to see Aaron grinning, a cookie-fueled mania in his eyes. Every member of my squad was behind him.
“What the hell?!” The guy growled, glaring.
“Time’s up, sweetheart,” I replied, feigning a pout before sprinting to our waiting Hyundai.
Dan opened the door, ushering me inside.
“Wait, that’s my car…” The man on the ground groaned, trying to stand.
Yep. His car. We’d just stolen it from him. Poor guy.
Talia covered her ears, muttering. “Wait a minute. Pause whatever you’re reading or hearing!”
Sorry. I’m Jercey Henderson, and I’ve lost my manners somewhere along the way. I'm with these six. They're my squad, my friends, my family.
Aaron, in the driver’s seat, is my first best friend. He’s arrogant, rude, and possesses a body that could make saints sin. But with us, he’s just Aaron. Aaron became this way after his first love, Jane Night, broke his heart.
Oh, and we made Jane regret ever crossing Aaron. Anything for him.
Meet Blair. Beautiful, sexy, but utterly stupid. Boys die for her, but she has no room for love. She steals and gets away with it. Game over, bitches.
Dan is Daniel. He’s always smiling, and girls fall for his charm. Talia is fourth. They’re both talkative, but since we’re all talkative, Talia seems quiet by comparison. She’s overdramatic, a queen diva.
Fifth is Claudia. She’s quiet, but only compared to us. She’s our hacker, a tomboy with a boyfriend, Valentino, a gang leader. They’re sickeningly in love. Ugh.
And lastly, me. Believe it or not, I’m the nerd of the team. I don’t want to be, but I am. I got a scholarship, which is why I’m leaving tomorrow. Fulfilling Dad’s wish to get rich. My old school was public, so I couldn’t get a good job. Now I’m at TRUDE, one of the most exclusive schools in the world, full of riches and foreigners.
And something else: we’re thieves. Professionals. We need money for rent, for living. So we steal. Food, makeup, clothes, cars, phones… everything. We use stolen clothes and cars to climb the popularity ladder, fueled by our beauty and charm.
And we all have missing parents. Sky, Aaron, and Blair are missing fathers. Dan, Talia, and Claudia are missing mothers. My mom died giving birth, and my dad, a coward, killed himself in front of me when I was fourteen.
Yay. What a father.
My life story sucks. It’s been a long time since I cried. Sometimes I think I’ve run out of tears, but I’m just saving them for better times. Besides, crying doesn’t solve anything.
But these people… these are my friends. My family. The people I do every risky, stupid, dumb thing with. They never gave up on me. I can’t express my feelings for them, I can’t even love them. Ugh. This is pathetic.
“Why doesn’t he shut up for goodness sake?” Talia said.
“I told you, drama queen.”
“Shut it, Talia! This car could buy you a mansion, and yet you can’t stop overreacting,” Dan said, silencing her as always. I laughed along with the others.
“Oh please… my life might not cost this damn car, but I do!” She smugly replied.
“My life…” he said, laughing. “Which life are you talking about?”
“Shut it or I’ll chop that ball of yours and feed it to the owner of the car so you both can shut up.”
“Guys, guys. It’s my last day with you, please stop arguing over some bullshit,” I cut in. A few seconds later she'd start crying, and he’d end up begging… as usual.
“Oh please honey are you stupid, nothing will be the same, she won't be stealing, eating sleeping, partying or ditching class with us, we won't talk as we used to, Skype isn't even close to live meeting...... stop giving your self lame excuse” Claudia snapped suddenly the car went silent. God I hate silence, not to mention the most uncomfortable ones. I starting shifting on my seat uncomfortably, only to see everyone in the car even Aaron from rearview is staring at me,while controlling their tears just like am doing. I hate crying but these... these people are my friends, family...the guys I did every risky stupid dumb things with. They never gave up on me...I just can't express my feelings for them,I can't even love them.........ugh this is pathetic, I hate it!
“Who wants to party?” Aaron shouted.
We all nodded, and I gave him a thankful smile through the rearview, which he returned with a wink before putting on his glasses. The uncomfortable silence was replaced by Drake and our screeching voices.
I will totally miss my squad.
“Decrease the volume, dummies,” a squeaky voice said from outside. We all turned to see girls sitting in a BMW.
“Shut it, bitches!” Talia screamed.
“Or what?” the other girl yelled.
I slapped my temple with my palm.
“Breaking your already broken nose will fit,” Claudia said.
“Watch your mouth, you twat,” the first girl snapped.
“It’s you… the girl who didn’t wash her pussy for a month, yet you still have the audacity to leave your room. Shame on you,” Dan said. The girls gaped at him, their mouths hanging open. I swear, if we were in a cartoon movie, they would have dug their own graves from humiliation.
“We better get going,” Aaron said. We gave them a middle finger—lots of middle fingers—before Aaron roared off, smirking.
One second, and we were staring at Dan, who had a confused face. “What?!”
“What?!” We replied in sync, yelling.
“I don’t know her, dummies… I was lying.”
Just then, the car roared with our laughter. I really am leaving, aren’t I?
A/N Hi lovelies, I’m back. I’m still fifteen and I need your support. I basically hate prologues and introductions, so I just started right away. I hope you liked it, and thank you for giving it a chance. And the fun is coming.
