“Time slips by unnoticed, and it’s already time to run,” I muttered to myself.

We *were* running. Really running. And for what, you ask?

Nope.

We hadn’t stolen anything yet.

Nope.

I hadn’t cursed an officer.

Nah… We hadn’t beaten anyone to death.

And yes, that’s right.

I was late for my damn trude.

Last night’s hangover was brutal, and let me tell you, I absolutely loathe running – not just running, but *any* exercise. I hate it more than I hate my life, which isn’t a hatred, more like a pity. And I’m doing it early in the morning, lugging a suit bag, no less. Ugh.

“Tell me again why we’re running!” Tal gasped, stopping to clutch her knees, panting heavily.

“To save the fine round ass of Jer over here,” Dan shouted without breaking stride.

“Don’t forget about Nessa. I sent her your photo, she’ll see you at school,” Blaire said, pointing towards the bus station.

“Where the hell is your car, Aaron?” I snapped, frustration bubbling.

“Trying to change the VIN and the freaking color,” he replied with a grin. I was about to tell him to quit grinning when my eyes caught a glimpse of gray…

Please don’t be a floor.

I was kidding myself. I was about to faceplant. Thank God a hand caught my wrist, pulling me back into balance. Whew. That was close. A girlish squeal escaped me—sounding, I swear, like a horse’s bark.

Horses don’t bark, stupid.

I’m sure my head had touched the floor.

Laughter erupted behind me. I turned to glare at Tal and Dan, who were currently doubled over at my expense.

“Yeah, friends,” I muttered under my breath.

I believe in fairy tales and fairy godmothers, so I begged to be Jerella for today, to let my fairy very good godmother help me. We had five seconds left, and I quoted ‘never give up.’

After five grueling minutes, we reached the bus station. Wheels were officially my favorite invention, saving my fine round butt.

“You didn’t forget the apartment keys, did ya?” Aaron asked, and I nodded. After a quick goodbye, I boarded the bus, all eyes fixed on me.

Note to self: never leave home without getting ready.

I was wearing last night’s red dress, six-inch heels, and my hair looked like a bird’s nest—a golden, feathered mess. I hadn’t even managed to wash my face, let alone shower. No wonder they were staring. If it weren't me in this situation, I would’ve taken a pic laughing my ass off just to post it.

Trude gives a free PC along with school fees, but they don’t have dorms for high schoolers, so I’m living in my own apartment in Tygerwell, near my new school.

I officially bought the apartment when Dad died, using the money from selling the old house and his car. We lived in Tygerwell before he died, so I knew the place well.

An hour and a half seated on this bus is tiresome and BORING.

After disembarking, I headed towards the building, and almost walked right past it if not for the name. You really should see this. The metal door had been replaced with automatic ones, the receptionist wearing a black uniform, same goes for the waitress. Disgusting. I hate uniforms.

Says the girl who’s going to wear one to school.

Shut up, I still hate it.

The guy in front of me, about my age, stared at me with confusion.

“Did I think talk?” I asked worriedly. He chuckled, nodding. I really should stop doing that.

Aaaaaahh, this is so embarrassing.

“You said that out loud,” he said in a smooth voice.

I slapped my temple, watching as he extended his hand. “My name is Luca, let me help you with your bag.”

“Jercey, with a c,” I said, shaking his hand.

Luca took my bag and we headed towards my apartment in comfortable silence. Once there, I gave him some money, and he took his leave. I sighed, opening the door to my apartment, planning to shower as soon as I got inside. But my plan changed.

I DON’T REMEMBER HAVING A FANCY RED LEATHERED SOFA IN MY LIVING ROOM…
