Today was the day. Hawaii, here we come. A wave of excitement bubbled inside me, a feeling I hadn’t known I could hold.

“Good morning, y/n,” Billie’s voice was soft as she woke me.

“Hey,” I replied, a smile stretching across my face. I couldn’t help but get lost in her eyes, those deep, captivating pools of blue.

“We have to leave in half an hour,” she said, leaning closer.

A knock on the door. “Hey girls, are you awake?” My mom’s voice.

“Come in,” I called out.

“Hey Mom, can I tell you something quick?” I asked, turning my attention to her.

“Yeah, sure. What is it?”

“It’s just… Billie is my girlfriend, if you didn’t already know,” I blurted out, laughing nervously.

Billie and I watched as my mom’s lips curved into a knowing smile. “Oh, I’ve known since I watched you two first meet.”

We exchanged a look, laughing. Apparently, our connection hadn’t been subtle.

“Your brother and parents know too,” Mom added, amused.

“Well, shit,” Billie said, turning to me with wide eyes.

“Alright, I’ll let you two get ready. Make sure you’re both downstairs in fifteen minutes,” Mom said, closing the door behind her.

“Well that went great, girlfriend,” Billie said, her voice laced with a playful giggle.

I looked into her eyes, that familiar warmth flooding through me. She was so beautiful, so utterly breathtaking. How could I ever *not* think that?

“Let’s get up and get ready so we can sleep on the plane, okay?” she asked.

“Sounds good,” I replied.

I was already showered from the night before, but Billie hadn’t gotten around to it yet. She headed to the bathroom for a quick shower.

“I fucking forgot my shirt,” she called out from the bathroom, her voice playful.

“Damn, love, you look hot,” I blurted out, then immediately flushed with embarrassment. Had I been too forward?

“Oh do I?” she asked, a smirk dancing on her lips.

“Mhm,” I mumbled, unable to look away.

She came over and sat on my lap, still wrapped in a towel. She leaned in and kissed me softly, then simply rested her head against mine, her eyes locking with mine.

“Girls, you better be down here in five minutes,” my mom’s voice cut through the quiet.

“Damn, it’s like she knows what we’re doing,” Billie laughed.

She grabbed her shirt and headed back to the bathroom, leaving me breathless.

Downstairs, Billie’s family was waiting. The Uber arrived soon after, and we piled inside. It quickly became apparent that two people would have to double up, meaning someone would have to sit on someone’s lap.

Billie smirked, and I knew exactly what she was thinking. Claudia decided to sit on Finneas’ lap. They were adorable, so sweet and reserved in a way Billie and I never were.

As you guessed, I sat on Billie’s lap, oblivious to the mischievous thoughts swirling in her head.

A notification popped up on Billie’s phone. It was Finneas: “Don’t start fucking in the car, I don’t need to see that.”

Billie and I burst out laughing. He kept making exaggerated disgusted faces at us while joking around, and Billie continuously flipped him off.

A few minutes later, we arrived at the airport and boarded the plane. We sat in the back, behind Finneas and Claudia, who were seated in front of us. Maggie and Patrick were in front of them, and my mom was last.

I felt a pang of sadness. She didn’t have anyone to sit next to. It had been a while, but we still felt the loss of my dad keenly. I knew my mom missed him terribly.

“You okay, mamas?” Billie asked, noticing my somber expression.

“Yeah, sorry. I just was thinking about my dad,” I replied, looking out the window.

“Don’t be sorry, y/n. It wasn’t your fault. Why don’t you and I try to sleep?” she offered, her voice soft.

“Okay,” I said, a small smile tugging at my lips.

I leaned my head onto her shoulder, and she placed her head on top of mine. She intertwined her hand with mine. It was a simple gesture, but it filled me with warmth. She just *knew* how to pull me back from the brink.

“Get some rest,” she whispered, before drifting off to sleep.

Soon enough, we would be in Hawaii.
